# Write From Dictation: The Heavyweight Champion of PTE If there is one task you absolutely must master to achieve a 79+ in PTE, it is **Write From Dictation (WFD)**. This task appears at the very end of the Listening section and contributes heavily to both your Listening and Writing scores. ## How WFD is Scored You receive points for every correct word you type, in the correct sequence. Spelling and capitalization matter immensely. If a word is plural in the audio (e.g., "students") and you write it as singular ("student"), you lose the point for that word. ## The Secret Strategy: Add Extra Words! Did you know that Pearson's algorithm does not penalize you for adding extra words? If you are unsure whether the speaker said "a" or "the", or "student" or "students", you can type both! *Example Audio:* The students are studying in the library. *Your Input:* The a student students are studying in the library libraries. While this looks grammatically absurd, the computer simply checks if the target words are present. You will get full marks for the correct words and no negative marks for the extra ones. **However, use this strategy cautiously** and only for words you are genuinely unsure about. ## Time Management is Critical Because WFD is at the end of the test, many students run out of time and miss it entirely. You MUST manage your time in the Listening section so that you have at least 4-5 minutes left for the 3-4 WFD questions. Never spend too much time on Multiple Choice questions!
